Our cameras are plug-and-play, so if your computer is not seeing yours, it is nearly always one of three things: the arm is up, the camera is going through a hub, or an application is holding onto it.

Check these first

  1. Swivel the camera arm fully down. With the arm up, power to the 4K camera and the microphones is physically cut. Nothing on your computer can see the camera in that position — by design.
  2. Plug directly into your computer. Not a USB hub, dock, monitor USB port, or extension cable. These share power and bandwidth, and a 4K camera needs more of both than most of them can supply. This is the single most common cause.
  3. Try a different USB port, and a different cable if you have one. Charge-only cables carry power but not enough data for video.
  4. Quit every app that might be using a camera — Zoom, Teams, Meet, the Camera app, OBS, iContact Control — then plug the camera in and open just one of them.

Then confirm your computer can see the hardware

On a Mac

  1. Apple menu > About This Mac > System Report > Camera.
  2. If iContact Camera is listed, your computer sees it and the problem is in your meeting app — skip to the next section.
  3. If it is not listed, try an SMC reset, then check System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure your meeting app is allowed.

On Windows

  1. Open Device Manager and look under Cameras, Imaging devices, or Sound, video and game controllers.
  2. If it is not listed, choose Action > Scan for hardware changes.
  3. Check Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and turn on camera access, including for desktop apps.
  4. Test with the built-in Camera app. If it works there, the problem is in your meeting app.
  5. Run Windows Update, then restart.

If your computer sees it but Zoom, Teams or Meet does not

Meeting apps scan for cameras when they launch. If the app was open while the arm was up or the camera was unplugged, it never saw it.

  1. Lower the arm and make sure the camera is plugged in.
  2. Quit the meeting app completely — from the system tray or menu bar, not just the window.
  3. Reopen it and choose iContact Camera in its video settings.
