The usual cause: light behind you
If there is a window or lamp behind you, the camera exposes for the bright background and your face goes dark. Turn so the light is in front of you, or close the blind.
Quick fixes
- Put your main light in front. A window you face is the cheapest good light there is.
- Avoid overhead-only lighting. Ceiling lights cast shadows under the eyes.
- Adjust exposure in the desktop app. Brightness, contrast and exposure are all adjustable, and settings persist between calls.
- Add a dedicated light if your room has no good natural light. The Pro Light Panel mounts directly above the lens.
If it keeps shifting mid-call
Automatic exposure reacts to what is in frame. If someone opens a blind or you move, it re-exposes. Setting exposure manually in the desktop app locks it and stops the drift.
