iContact Camera Go uses a manually adjustable lens rather than autofocus, so it will not sharpen itself — focus is something you set once. Dark spots that stay in the same place as you move are a separate problem: dust behind the removable lens.
Setting focus
- Turn the notched locknut counterclockwise to loosen it.
- Rotate the lens slowly while watching your camera image.
- Turn it in either direction until the image is sharp at your normal working distance.
- Tighten the locknut once focus is set.
Watch a live preview while you do this — QuickTime on Mac, or Camera on Windows. Adjusting against a still meeting-app preview is much harder.
Focus normally only needs setting once. If you move between very different distances, set it for wherever you spend most of your time.
Clearing dark spots
Spots that hold position as you move are dust on the protective surface behind the lens.
- Disconnect the camera.
- Carefully remove the lens.
- Use a clean lens-safe blower or a soft, dry lens swab to remove visible dust.
- If needed, lightly dampen a lens-safe swab with lens-cleaning solution. Do not spray liquid directly into the camera.
- Reinstall the lens and reconnect the camera.
You will need to reset the focus after refitting the lens — see above.
If it will not come sharp at any position
- Clean the lens with a soft microfiber cloth.
- Add light. A dim room looks soft even when focus is correct.
- Make sure the locknut is fully loose — a partly tightened nut limits the lens travel.
