Work through these in order
- Clean the lens. Fingerprints are the single most common cause. Use a dry microfibre cloth.
- Remove the lens cover. If you use a Pro Lens Cover, check it is fully slid open.
- Add light. In a dim room the sensor opens up and depth of field shrinks, so autofocus hunts and the image softens. Face a window, or add a light in front of you — not behind.
- Sit at a normal distance. Very close to the lens is outside the focus range.
- Check the app is set to full resolution. Video platforms often drop resolution on a weak connection, which looks like a camera problem but is not.
If it is soft only in your meeting app
Zoom, Teams and Meet compress video and reduce quality when bandwidth is limited. Open your operating system camera app to see the camera output uncompressed. If that looks sharp, the camera is fine and the softness is the platform.
Still soft?
